AP govt school classrooms to get smarter at Rs. 512 cr

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh government will purchase 5.18 lakh tabs with pre-loaded Byju's content besides smart TVs and interactive TVs as part of its decision to improve quality of education in the schools.
The tabs will be distributed free of cost to the students of higher classes in all the government schools. During a review meeting held on Nadu Nedu, senior officials told Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy at his camp office at Tadepalli near here on Monday that 72,481 TV sets are needed. For smart classrooms, the TV sets will be set up in phases. The total cost will be Rs 512 crore. By next March the first phase of digitisation would be complete, the officials informed the Chief Minister.
Jagan Mohan Reddy categorically stated that monthly audits should be carried out at schools revamped under Nadu Nedu about the amenities and other aspects.
The Chief Minister said the scope of the audit should also cover the utilisation of maintenance funds and a number should be displayed for complaints for which the officials said that toll free numbers have been created.
On Vidya Kanuka kits distribution, the Chief Minister said uniform tailoring charges should be paid to the mothers of the students on the opening day itself and parents' committees should be made active in the school functioning and frequent meetings should be arranged to discuss the school development. The officials stated that the action plan to distribute the entire kit in June next year is ready.
The Chief Minister reiterated that sanitation and quality of drinking water should be brought under the purview of village clinics, which should send reports periodically on which action should be taken. This will reduce to a large extent the ailments that arise due to poor sanitation and impure drinking water.
The officials said that as per the instructions given by the Chief Minister, village/ward Secretariats will be part of school maintenance and weekly visits will be made by welfare and education assistant and woman police, while ANMs will visit monthly once and SOPs have been prepared specifying their role.
